Thoughts For Thursday...
Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Today is the 15th day of a Raw Food Cleanse I started on July 1st.
I am very proud that I have been able to stick to it .My blood glucose has improved so much in just 15 days!I am seeing numbers ranging from 70 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl in the mornings! That is like a miracle for me! I was waking up to numbers close to 300 mg/dl in spite of 40 units of insulin and 3 pills! In the past 15 days I have been told to reduce my insulin to half the amount and if my glucose levels continue to stay normal I may get off the insulin altogether! I had to start taking insulin this past May because of my uncontrolled diabetes.I had been feeling very sick & tired. It's been 18 years living with this disease.I have tried different diets and programs ...and given up. Nothing much seems to work. I had been eating raw several years ago.I felt great, lost weight and had my sugars in control--but little by little I returned to SAD eating. Then I tried switching to more whole foods and grains like brown rice quinoa and cooked legumes. Still my blood sugars were up. I know that eating raw ,whole foods works for me in terms of lowering my blood sugars. My concern is eating the right amount protein.I know that since I need to lose weight I can not consume a high fat diet, even if it is rawThat means reducing the amount of nuts and avocados I've been eating. I lost 4 lbs during this cleanse. I know I could have lost more, but I am ok with that since losing too much too quickly means I will gain it back easily.
I still have so much to learn and a ton of questions and doubts--but I know one thing for sure---right at this moment I want to continue eating a raw vegan diet --at least 95% raw. i have joined sveral raw food groups on facebook and also joined Frederic Patanaudes Raw Food Mentor club. Road to raw is also doing a 21 day cleanse I'm thinking of joining. I am grateful for all the information there is out there.though at times it can get a bit confusing!
I have been trying to keep it simple when it comes to eating.I love the green smoothies most of all.
These ar a few of th meals I've enjoyed :
A Mediterranean massaged kale salad with pine nuts
Ground Flax seed/ banana /apple "pudding"
Greens & Grapefruit salad sprinkled with sesame and pumpkin seeds
Avocado, grapefruit & sprout salad
Portabella mushroom "burger"
I have been eating lots of yummy fruit and salads for the most part...oh yeah and tons of raw cauliflower! But I need more ideas! Anyone have some suggestions?

ReplyDeletegood luck to you on your journey!

The photos are great!! Try pulverizing carrots in a food chopper for your salads. It's different enough to feel "new."
