The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

This past Wednesday while I was rummaging through the donated book bin at my daughter's day care I came across this book. I had seen previews on the film and had asked my oldest daughter to order it for me. I was glad to find the book since I like to read books before watching the movie.

I've read many books about the holocaust in the past, but this was definitely different. The story is about the friendship that develops between two little boys from completely different worlds. One is a child "living" in Auschwitz and the other the son of a Nazi commandant. They get to know one another with a fence looming between them...a fence that in the end can't keep them apart...

This is from the book:

The story of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some clues about the book on the jacket, but in this case we think that would spoil the reading of the book. We think it is important that you start to read without knowing what it is about.
If you do start to read this book, you will go on a journey with a nine-year-old boy called Bruno. (Though this isn't a book for nine-year-olds.) And sooner or later you will arrive with Bruno at a fence.
Fences like this exist all over the world. We hope you never have to encounter such a fence.

I am ready to watch the movie now.Prepared to shed some tears, like the one's on my face when I got to the end of this book.
